10 Things to Do While Staying at Four Seasons Resort Los Cabos at Costa Palmas In Mexico

Article and photos by Dylan Clements

One of the reasons I really like Four Seasons Resort Los Cabos at Costa Palmas is the location. You are only around 45 minutes from Los Cabos International Airport, but once you get out to the East Cape it feels very different from Cabo San Lucas and the main hotel strip.

You have the Sea of Cortez in front of you, the Sierra de la Laguna mountains behind you, and a lot of the surrounding area still feels relatively undeveloped.

If you are considering a stay, Clements Travel is an authorized Four Seasons Preferred Partner, so I can book eligible Four Seasons rates with the usual Preferred Partner benefits added.

There is also a good offer in place for new reservations for travel through December 18, 2026. Eligible room bookings receive a guaranteed one-category upgrade at the time of booking. The offer does not apply to suites, residences or villas.

You could quite easily stay at the resort and do very little, but if you do want to get out and explore, these are the things I would look at.

1. Swim in the Sea of Cortez

This is a bigger deal than it sounds.

A lot of beaches in Los Cabos are not really suitable for swimming because of the currents and waves. At Four Seasons Costa Palmas you are on the calmer Sea of Cortez side, so you can properly use the beach.

The resort also has paddleboards, kayaks and a Hobie catamaran available from the beach.

2. Go to Cabo Pulmo

If I was picking one bigger day trip from the resort, Cabo Pulmo would be high on the list.

It is around 45 minutes away and is one of the best-known marine reserves in Baja. You can snorkel or dive and there is a huge amount of marine life, including rays, turtles, sea lions and large schools of fish.

Four Seasons can also organize boat trips from the Costa Palmas marina, which saves you having to drive there.

3. Do a Baby Turtle Release

If you are staying between around August and October, ask the hotel about the turtle program.

Olive Ridley turtles nest along this stretch of coastline and Costa Palmas helps protect the nests and newly hatched turtles.

The timing obviously depends on nature, so it is not something you can guarantee months in advance, but if there is a release happening during your stay I would definitely do it.

4. Visit Sol de Mayo Waterfall

This is a good one if you want a break from the beach.

Sol de Mayo is near Santiago, around 40 minutes inland from the resort. There are freshwater pools, granite rocks and a waterfall in the Sierra de la Laguna foothills.

You can make the walk relatively easy or turn it into more of a hike.

5. Swim With Whale Sharks

Whale shark trips operate from La Paz during the right season.

Whale shark encounters are one of the standout marine experiences in Baja California Sur.

It is a long day from Four Seasons Costa Palmas, so I would not recommend it to everyone, but swimming alongside whale sharks is a pretty incredible experience if you have never done it before.

You can also spend some time in La Paz while you are there.

6. Go Surfing

People have been coming down from California to surf Baja for decades.

The East Cape has plenty of breaks and generally warm water, although where you should go depends heavily on the swell, season and your ability.

I would ask the Four Seasons adventure team what conditions are like while you are there rather than deciding on a spot in advance.

7. Go Off-Roading

The East Cape is perfect for this.

There are miles of desert tracks, beaches and sand dunes, and it gives you a much better idea of how empty this part of Baja still is.

Late afternoon is probably the best time to do it, particularly if you can time the return for sunset.

8. Visit El Triunfo

El Triunfo is an old mining town inland from the coast.

At one point thousands of people lived here during the mining boom. Today it is tiny, with restored old buildings, cafés, museums and a few shops.

I would combine it with another stop rather than make it the only reason for the day out.

9. Go Fishing

If you like fishing, the Sea of Cortez is one of the best places in Mexico to do it.

The big advantage at Four Seasons is the Costa Palmas marina. You can leave directly from there for fishing, sport fishing or a private boat day rather than having to drive somewhere else first.

Go early in the morning if you can.

10. Go Hiking

There are hiking routes very close to the resort, including trails that take you up above the East Cape.

You get great views over the Sea of Cortez and back towards the mountains.

I would go early in the morning. Baja gets hot very quickly once the sun is up.

My Take

I would not fill every day with activities.

Four Seasons Costa Palmas is the kind of place where I would probably spend most of my time at the resort and then pick two or three things from this list.

Cabo Pulmo would be my first choice. I would also look at Sol de Mayo, a boat day or the turtle release if the timing works.

The East Cape is one of the more interesting parts of Los Cabos because it still feels quite removed from the main resort areas.

Book Four Seasons Los Cabos With Preferred Partner Benefits

If you are planning a stay, I can book Four Seasons Resort Los Cabos at Costa Palmas as an authorized Four Seasons Preferred Partner.

Preferred Partner bookings normally include daily breakfast for two, a US$100 hotel credit per stay, an upgrade, early check-in and late check-out subject to availability, plus additional recognition from the hotel.

For eligible new room bookings through December 18, 2026, there is also the current guaranteed upgrade offer, so the one-category upgrade can be confirmed at the time of booking rather than left until arrival.

You still book directly with Four Seasons and pay the hotel, and there is no booking fee from me.

Send me your dates and preferred room type and I can check the best available Four Seasons Preferred Partner options.
