Lets Address This First - Isn't Mexico Affected Quite Badly By COVID at the moment?

Mexico is a huge country and there are quite a few states in red zone at the moment. However, in the state of Quintana Roo where the Andaz Mayakoba is located, it is an orange zone. I wrote this piece about the Rosewood Mayakoba but it gives an idea of what it is like to stay at a hotel in the Mayakoba Complex. I have also visited the Andaz and am more than confident they are going above and beyond in creating a safe environment for their guests. The hotel has shown me many of their processes in detail so I am more than happy to answer any questions relating to their new normal. All staff that works in tourism in Quintana Roo have also undertaken training in best practices relating to Covid-19.

You only need to wear a mask if you are inside communal areas at the Andaz. Due to the alfresco dining nature of this resort hardly anytime is spent outdoors.

The Hotel -

This hotel is in the world-class Mayakoba Complex which is pure 5-star luxury. Discover the beachfront Andaz Mayakoba Resort secluded in the private gated-Mayakoba complex, surrounded by tranquil lagoons and lush vegetation with nature trails that guests can enjoy for walking, jogging, and biking while listening to the sounds of nature.  A small shopping village in the middle of the complex with beautiful boutique stores.

The Room -

The guestrooms and suites at Andaz Mayakoba are inspired by nature with open layouts and a colour palette reflective of stone, sand, and water; they are flooded with natural light and feature bright pops of colour and refined Mayan decor.

The Pools -

The resort boasts two refreshing outdoor pools including a heated hot tub. Unwind poolside, stretch out on our chaise lounge chairs or cabanas, and immerse yourself in the lush greenery and tropical landscaping of Andaz Mayakoba. Our oceanfront pool features views of the sparkling Caribbean beachfront and the resort’s unique artwork, including an Octopus mural designed by resident artist Senkoe for a vibrant touch. For a secluded and intimate retreat, relax by our lagoon-side pool and immerse yourself in nature.

Kid's Club -

Children between the ages of four and 12 can enjoy the resort’s kids club, KIMBO. Activities here range from storytelling, arts and crafts, and exciting games, to meeting new friends and engaging in inspiring experiences.

Tinta Del Pulpo - (main restaurant)

Tinta del Pulpo is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and offers all-day poolside Mexican and international cuisine, tasty sauces made with local produce and locally crafted artisan beers. The restaurant also offers fresh ceviches, aguachiles, and a variety of desserts including homemade churros and authentic local sweets.

Sotavento - (beach restaurant with awesome barbeque)

Inspired by a shipwreck that washed up on the Mayakoba shore, Sotavento is a unique environment that entices guests to live freely “under the wind.” Relax in the casual ambiance while tasting an array of Mediterranean delicacies such as fresh seafood, daily chef specials, light salads, and a variety of desserts - all to be enjoyed with your feet in the sand. Take in the spectacular views of the Caribbean sea at this sun-soaked daytime venue that turns into an exciting evening experience. Create magical memories and moments, complete with live music and a fresh ocean breeze.

VB - (I really loved this place and they have a wine hour to watch the sunset)

VB is for a variety of healthy juices and smoothies during the day and a selection of fresh and seasonal vegan foods for dinner and Instagram-worthy sunsets from our outdoor terrace.

Just a few notes:

  • The Riveria Maya coast does suffer sargassum on the beach from time to time. The Mayakoba complex collectively has barriers at sea which greatly helps in minimising the amount of sargassum coming ashore. They also have a full-time beach cleaning team.

  • Due to Covid some facilities in the hotel may not be open but I will discuss all this with you at the time of booking. When I stayed at the Mayakoba complex earlier this year I personally felt no inconvenience.
