Safety and margaritas go hand in hand as this popular Mexico holiday spot reopens to visitors
Out of anywhere in Mexico, Quintana Roo is the place that is most open for business, post lockdown. This state stretches from Cancun, all the way down the white sand Caribbean coast ending at the Belize border.
It has to be stressed, this area has not just opened back up, the whole process has been done with care and thought. For example, did you know the State government has ensured that every single person working in tourism has completed an exam in relation to guest safety?
The moment you arrive at Cancun Airport, your driver will wipe your luggage down and offer you hand sanitizer before entering their car. All vehicles are cleaned between each passenger.
Your resort will have its own cleaning policy. As a minimum, everybody has their temperature taken on arrival to look for any fever and hand gel is applied. Staff all wear masks but with that in mind, nearly all resorts have made it optional in regards to guests needing to wear a mask - this is generally due to the open-air nature of the resorts.
If you do leave the property, then you are expected to wear a mask while out and about. Obviously, if you are eating in a restaurant or doing something such as swimming in a cenote then this will not be necessary. The local folk are working hard to follow the COVID-19 prevention rules to the word which is working. This is evident in places such as the beach in Playa Del Carmen reopening just this week with the ruins in Tulum and Coba soon to follow suit. Nearly all shops and supermarkets are currently open.
When it comes to finding somewhere to stay, then be sure to check out some of my favorite properties:
Best for Ultimate Luxury - Rosewood Mayakoba
It is no secret that the most luxurious property down the coast is the Rosewood Mayakoba. The property is bordered by jungle, mangroves, white sand beach, and a PGA golf course.
Lots of space to socially distance and most of the restaurants are open air. Relax in the pool while the waiters whip you up their signature cocktail. The kids club is awesome and has created special memories for many a child from around the world.
Be sure to check out the article of my stay here, right after it reopened in June here.

Best for All-Inclusive - Andaz Mayakoba Resort, Riveria Maya
To be honest I was the biggest fan of this property when it first opened three years ago.
However, I revisited this property in June and it is now one of my favorite resorts down the coast. The main reason is it has a tonne of ‘cool personality’ with murals, a vegan restaurant, juice bar, yoga next to a turtle-filled tranquil laguna, and oversized pools.
They also have an option where you can include all your food and drink into the price of the room which makes for a cost-effective holiday while enjoying that famous Andaz luxury.

Best Beachclub - La Zebra, Tulum
This is located right in the heart of the Tulum beach club scene. Laidback with lots of chic style throughout complimented by tropical wood finishes.
Spend the day shopping in the nearby fashion boutiques, dining at local restaurants, and then enjoy a sundowner back at Le Zebra. It is not uncommon for sea turtles to come ashore and lay their eggs right in the sand right in front of you.

Best for Wellness and Rejuvenation - Chable Maroma
The Chable brand is centered around wellness. With an emphasis on whole-body wellbeing, the resort induces relaxation with a beach yoga deck, full-service spa with eight treatment cabins, water sports, gym, fitness classes, and cooking classes.
Having over 200 meters of beachfront means that the property is very open and there are a lot of spaces to find your own, private little spot while in paradise.

As you can see, there is something for everyone. The word is fast spreading that the Riveria Maya is the place to be for a safe and relaxing holiday. With this being the case it’s no surprise that the airport recently opened its second terminal back up.
Now is the perfect time to book, with plenty of hotel offers available. Take advantage of my affiliations with Protrav, Virtuoso, and most leading hotel brands worldwide to elevate your travel experience, email email@example.com or check out my website at clements.travel
